Jenny Ulum is a longtime public relations and public affairs executive and an active community volunteer. A graduate of North Bend High School, she attended Linfield College, earning a degree in communications and sociology. Ulum worked in government as a legislative aide and communications director before completing a master’s in journalism at the University of Oregon in 1983, where she also served as a graduate teaching fellow. After graduating, Ulum embarked on a 40-year career in journalism, public relations and public affairs, spending 16 years in leadership roles for PeaceHealth. From 1995 to 2008 she owned and operated The Ulum Group, a public relations/public affairs firm with offices in Portland and Eugene. Since 2015 Ulum has been the lead communications officer for King Estate Winery. Among her many volunteer efforts, she has served on the Oregon Public Broadcasting board of directors and is past chair of the SAIF board. In 2018 Ulum was named Eugene’s First Citizen. She is married to UO Professor Emeritus Tim Gleason and has one adult daughter.
